As of this year, PC gained a new athletic director, Mrs. Dee Nichols. She has been working with PC for 14 years now and has made a tremendous impact on the student-athletes throughout the years.
She has been hands-on learning about the position during her time as an assistant athletic director to 4 different athletic directors. She feels this experience has given her the perfect training, important contacts and connections, and a good handle on the culture that is fostered in the athletic department. As the new athletic director, she feels proud to be in such an impactful position. Especially with the statistics that 24% of women are ADs and 15% of those women are ADs at Division 1 universities/colleges. Mrs. Dee states “From a nation lens, I would say I am extremely honored to be part of that, what is a small group of women who are athletic directors.”
In this position, she wishes to continue to promote success for athletes on the field/court and in the classroom. Her goal statement is as follows, “Continuing to sponser a department where the athletes perform academically and are excelling in all aspects of their life here at PC: service, academics, athletic performance, and just personal fullfillment.” She wants to create an impact in the athletic community while allowing the student-athletes to find their own journeys as well.
Before her career here at PC, she was an athlete herself at Georgia Southern University, a coach, and a recruiting coordinator. During all of this variety in exposure, she was able to see all the different angles and perspectives that goes into becoming an athlete, being an athlete, a coach, and a supporting parent in the recruiting process. This familiarity has given her an upper hand in it all being team-oriented, and coach and athlete focused and she says “I really try to stay true to all of that and to let that be apart it as it is a part of who I am.”
Mrs. Dee has felt that from day 1 of working at PC, she has been a Bluehose. This experience will always hold a special place for her. Her final statement is as follows, “Like we tell all of our seniors, once a Bluehose, always a Bluehose.”
