On October 21st, our Blue Hose football team played their homecoming game against Marist College in New York after three days of events like voting for Homecoming Royalty and social gatherings centered around alums.
The parking lot in front of Bailey Memorial Stadium was full of students, parents, and alumni that gathered to watch PC’s homecoming game. Before the game, people gathered around to tailgate, lounging in outdoor seating while their food was grilled. A good start to an eventful day.
The game began as an exciting one for our team. Within the first few minutes, Marist fumbled and PC recovered before scoring a quick touchdown.
It was only a few minutes that passed before Marist attained a touchdown in the same fashion and gained seven points, making it a tied 7-7 game from the beginning.
Later on in the first quarter, number 25 on our team almost completed a pick but the football slipped through his fingers. In another exciting turn of events, there was a 55-yard pass at the end of the first quarter that allowed us to score a field goal at the start of the second quarter.
In the middle of the quarter, our Blue Hose team ran for a 55-yard touchdown, but, sadly, a player on our team was flagged for holding and the touchdown was reversed.
The first half ended with Marist catching an interception and scoring a touchdown, so the half ended with us Blue Hose behind at 10-14.
During halftime, Homecoming Royalty was announced after several days of voting by donating canned goods. Out of all the contenders, Grace Hoover won! Congratulations to her!
The launch of the second half was an exhilarating one, with our PC team running 55 yards, stopping just short of the goal-line. Unfortunately, no points were gained from this drive after a missed field goal.
There were no more exciting plays in the third quarter, and it ended with no point changes at 10-14. However, in the stands, one passionate PC fan, annoyed with the events of the game and the referees, stood up and began to call out the referees for their poor calls. It added an interesting element to the otherwise slow quarter.
The game took a turn for the worse in the fourth quarter. Marist scored both a field goal and a safety, and PC failed to recover. Our homecoming game ended in a devastating loss of 10-19.
Throughout the game, to pause in between some plays, PC students participated in games to win prizes provided by generous sponsors. Notably, freshman Benjamin Barrett won a dance competition after showcasing moves that were praised for being good but some argued the opposite.
Even though our homecoming game ended in a loss, hopefully we can focus on the amusing parts of the game along with all of the progress our football team has made this year. Go Blue Hose!
