On October 19-21, Presbyterian College had its homecoming week. This included several different events, such as a Service Day Project, Scotoberfest, the ROTC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, and the PC football game at home against Marist. There were quite a few alumni back on campus with many stories that they wanted to tell.
For a lot of alumni, it was their first time back on campus in a very long time. They got to catch up with old friends and explore a transformed campus. They got to see where they once ate, the dorm they used to live in, and the fraternity or sorority house that they might have been a part of. Many memories came back to the alumni who returned to their former college. With that being said, three groups of alumni shared their college experience.
The first alumni was Lilibet Vass Wilkerson; she graduated from PC in 1970. She was very proud to say that she was the first girl on the student council in the history of PC as a freshman. Wilkerson is now on the alumni board; she said “She loves planning things and enjoyed the 50-year reunion”. She said PC was home for her and she loved staying in Clinton Hall. At the time she was there, Clinton Hall was the only dorm for the girls. Wilkerson said she enjoyed the Scotoberfest event and plans on coming to homecoming again next year.
The second group of alumni were James L. Kennedy Jr., who graduated from PC in 1988, and Kim Leslie Kennedy, who graduated from PC in 1989. James got to watch PC football games growing up as a kid. When he arrived at PC for college, he joined the rifling team and he said he loved every last bit of it, “I wish I could relive my college experience all over again”. James’s most memorable event at PC was when the PC football team beat Georgia Southern and he stormed the field with a suit and tie on and tore the goalpost down. Kim’s most memorable moments at PC were when she was able to dress up to go to the fraternity and sorority events on campus. James would describe his four years at PC as making lifelong friends that he now calls family.
The third group of alumni was composed of three gentlemen who were all a part of the same fraternity; Wellborne Price, who graduated from PC in 1993, John Baldwin, who graduated from PC in 1994, and Tom Hayes, who graduated from PC in 1991. Price said his favorite memory at PC was making close friends and connections that you couldn’t make at a bigger school. Baldwin’s favorite memory at PC was the culture. Hayes’s favorite memory was the fraternity parties at Sigma Nu; he said, “I was the social chairman for the fraternity and I lived at the fraternity house for one year”. They all confidently said that they would describe their time at PC as the most fun years of their lives.
In the eyes of the alumni, Presbyterian College has changed quite a bit but some things remain the same. All of the alumni had one thing in common, and that was that PC will always hold a special place in their hearts.
