The crowd was abuzz with conversation, brimming with excitement for what they were about to witness. Near the end of October, the Edmunds Auditorium was suddenly filled with a euphony of song.
On Monday, October 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Edmunds Auditorium, there was a fall choral concert. It was presented by the Presbyterian College Department of Visual and Performing Arts and featured performances by the PC choir and Bella Voce – all made possible by the directors, Ms. Lucie Svatonaova Hughes and Mrs. Kipper Ackerman.
It was an outstanding concert that set expectations for everyone and ensured the excitement of the next performance by the amazing PC choir. It also featured a variety of selections that fit any music enthusiast’s taste. The music included works by Daniel Schutte, Craig Courtney, Keith Hampton, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Richard Erickson, among others.
I interviewed choir members Ashylana Rogers and Yanna Hawthorne, and they mentioned how they felt about the concert. I thought this would be a great conclusion to the concert, as it gives us some insight into how the people behind the scenes feel about their performance and who made it happen. Hawthorne expresses that she felt it was a very good concert and that seeing others perform was fun. She explained how there was a girl in her quintet by the name of Lilly, and it was especially nice seeing her perform. She explains how “the music and the choir directors were really good; everyone had such a beautiful voice, and it was such a beautiful thing to see” and how she thoroughly enjoyed it. This interview showed how thankful Hawthorne is for the directors and choir members and is glad to see them perform alongside her.
Rogers says, “My favorite songs were I Want to Walk as a Child of Light because of the acapella portions, and The Phantom of the Opera was the most fun to sing. All of the choir members had lots of fun.” Through her point of view, we can see how she appreciated the music composition regarding the songs and the members of the choir.
The crowd’s whispers had diminished when they realized how amazing the voices were in front of them; in fact, I would say that they held their breath to avoid disturbing the music filling their ears. The stage was set for a performance. Both interviewees’ perspectives are valid, and it is clear from this that the choir members had a great time at the concert and are grateful to everyone who helped organize it.
The concert was filled with beautiful music and showcased some of PC’s many aspects, including the wonderful choir and community.
