On February 4th, at 5:00, I was fortunate to be a part of the Figs and Thistle Launch Party, a celebration that’s dedicated to not just Figs and Thistles, but the entire media outlet of Presbyterian College, whether it be video, radio, or the news. There’s something for everyone as lots of people show to see what this party was all about. For obvious reasons, I of course volunteered to showcase my station at Bluestockings alongside my friend and boss Sara Elrod. Catering was Chick-fil-A nuggets, fruits, and desserts, which in my opinion, was a perfect choice, even though it led to the food being devoured in seconds by our hungry guests.
Everything was in full swing as people came to check out all the various media outlets Presbyterian has to offer, as did I as I looked through all our various stations. Though I do like to write and I love writing for Bluestockings, I can see myself having a future in any of the media outlets showcased at this party. It was a great experience and fortunately, the fun had only just begun. As we all got settled with our food, we got introduced to some of the works that were presented by Figs and Thistles, including the works of one Sam Hauff, who shared with us some of her poetry detailing her personal life. I would be underselling if I called her poetry and performance emotional. It was a real tour de force she went explaining the struggles she faced in life, and all the ups and downs she went through because of that. To make everyone feel what she was feeling throughout her entire recitation of the poem takes extraordinary talent, and it’s safe to say everyone got invested in what she had to say. Overall, I had a wonderful time at this party and I certainly can’t wait for the next one to come up, and even hopefully, with a writing of my own to present.
