On March 4, 2025 at 4 pm, Blue Hose Women’s Lacrosse took on Mercyhurst in Bailey
Memorial Stadium in Clinton, South Carolina.
The Blue Hose were just coming off of their first win of their non-conference games this season,
with a victory over Delaware State at home, 18-6. They had a bit of a rough start to their season,
with three losses in a row up until that game, which was a huge momentum shifter for them.
Mercyhurst had just faced off with Furman and lost to them a whopping 4-20. They were 0-3 on
the season so far, so this game against PC could have turned their season around. Can the Blue
Hose keep their momentum going or will Mercyhurst take it for their season?
The Blue Hose started the game strong. They were leading the scoreboard with three goals to
none until about five minutes into the first quarter when Mercyhurst made their first appearance
on the board. The game stayed close in score nearly the entire time, but PC always stayed in the
lead.
Quarter one ended with the Hose up by one point, and going into halftime PC was up 10-9.
This was anyone’s game. The crowd was sweating and Blue Hose fans were on the edge of their
seats. The second half wasn’t any easier for fans to watch as the score stayed within two points,
almost the entirety of the third quarter. As PC would start to pull a lead, Mercyhurst followed close
behind, answering a Blue Hose goal with a goal of their own.
In the fourth quarter, PC gained a five-goal lead on Mercyhurst, but then in the last seven
minutes of the game let Mercyhurst go on a four goal run, bringing the score to 19-18 with only
three minutes left in the game.
The Blue Hose scored another one, making the score 20-18…then Mercyhurst put one in the
back of the net and the score was now 20-19 with two minutes remaining.
PC’s freshman goalie, Morgan Thompson, had a crucial save against Mercyhurst’s last shot
attempt of the game, allowing the Hose to keep their one point lead until the very end. PC
possessed the ball until the game clock went off, securing their second non-conference win of the
season!
Unfortunately for Mercyhurst, as they were hoping to see their first win, they took a tough one
point loss to the Presby Women’s Lacrosse team, whose overall record is now 2-3 on the season.
