The Presbyterian College baseball team kicked off its season at home Friday, February 18th with an impressive 12-5 victory over Navy. PC put Buck Mosteller on the mound against Navy’s Ben Nelson in a thrilling season opener. Nelson had a dismal 3 innings outing where he gave up 8 hits and 8 earned runs. Mosteller had a stellar performance only giving up 4 hits and 3 earned runs over 5.2 innings.

The contest started slowly with the first two innings going scoreless. However, PC picked up the pace in the bottom of the 3rd inning with a 3 run shot to left by Brad Zebedis. PC left the 3rd inning with a 3-1 lead and would never look back. Navy pulled the game even briefly in the 4th with a two run homer by Greg Dupell. However, PC quickly responded with 5 quick runs thanks to the bats of Mack Hite, Tony Micklon, and a grand slam by center fielder Gabe Grammer.

PC would add 3 more runs in the 5th inning to open up an 11-3 lead. The Blue Hose would get their 12th and final run in the six off of a single by Mack Hite that brought in Tony Micklon. Navy managed to score one run in the 7th and one final run in the 8th bringing their total up to 5.

PC was led by Gabe Grammer who went 3-5 and had 5 RBI’s. Mack Hite followed going 2-3 with 2 RBI’s. Tony Micklon and Kenny Bryant each collected 3 hits on the day contributing to the 12-5 defeat of Navy.

Navy was lead by Jeff Bland who went 1-3 with two RBI’S and Moore who went 2-3 with one RBI.
