SUB Coffee House Starts the Semester Off Right

Springs is alive with the sound of music. And poetry. And laughter.

PC’s Student Union Board hosted its first event of the new semester with a Coffee House Night on Friday in Springs Campus Center.  Around 200 students turned out to watch their fellow students and friends sing, play instruments, or recite poetry at the open mic before listening to guitarist, keyboardist, and singer Dylan Arms perform.

Jazzman’s coffee and syrups were served alongside baked goods including muffins, scones, cinnamon rolls, cookies, and fountain drinks to add to the relaxing and buzzing coffee-house atmosphere.

The night began with an Open Mic hour in which PC students could share their musical or literary talents with fellow students.  Nine acts performed, some multiple times, including several singing performances by groups and individuals, instrumental performances including a flute duet and violin solo, and two powerful poetry recitations.

Guest singer-songwriter and guitarist-keyboardist Dylan Arms from Greer, SC then took the stage and performed later into the night, singing both works he himself wrote and also popular hits including several songs by The Fray and Jack Johnson.

The Student Union Board (SUB) is a student-run organization that sponsors free entertainment and activities for students on campus.  Past Fall events at PC include Vegas Night, Trivia Night, outdoor and indoor movie nights, and Homecoming activities.
