SUB Movie Night’s Success is Elementary

The Student Union Board brought back the old movie theatre style by hosting a Movie Night on the Plaza this past Saturday night.  The first Sherlock Holmes movie was shown on the 20 foot inflatable screen out on the lawn in front of GDH.

Approximately 70 students came out with blankets, chairs, and pillows to enjoy the classic movie and to indulge in free popcorn and soft drinks and free entertainment, all of which added to the drive-in-movie-like atmosphere.  In the chilly but crisp Spring air, students snuggled under blankets on pallets made on the grass, on benches, or in rocking chairs at the SUB movie event meant to bring the student body together.

Though threatened to be moved inside earlier in the day due to the unpredictable rainy Spring weather, the event was held on a beautiful Spring night under the stars.  Even a minor technical delay during the showing of the movie could not take away from the positive and enjoyable atmosphere created by the students that attended.

The movie kicked off a few minutes after 8pm and lasted until about 10:15, providing a relaxing study break for students in the middle of the busy test weeks that always fall before Easter Break.

Sherlock Holmes is an action and mystery film and movie adaptation of the character created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.  The film features Robert Downey, Jr. as Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law as Dr. John Watson who, together, investigate a series of murders and aim to take down Lord Blackwood, a villain whose goal is to take control over all of England.  Rachel McAdams also stars as Irene Adler, who is a former adversary of Sherlock Holmes.

The Student Union Board (SUB) is a student-run organization that sponsors free entertainment and activities for students on campus.  Past Fall events at PC include Vegas Night, Trivia Night, outdoor and indoor movie nights, and Homecoming activities.
