Project Life is a SVS program in which people sign up to be a part of the National Bone Marrow Registry. We do this through DKMS, which was initially a German based company, but it pulls from the same registry that Be The Match uses.
Once you’re on the registry, you’re on it until you’re 62. Most bone marrow donations today occur through blood transfusions from the arms instead of drawing it from the iliac crest. It’s totally painless, and you will only donate if you are a perfect match to save someone’s life.
Here’s some information from the DKMS website: https://www.dkms.org/en
Project Life will run Nov 7-9 during lunch in Springs. On that Thursday night, Nov 8, we will be having a dinner in MSY with wings from Tony’s and salad. Tickets will be $5 and all of the proceeds go to DKMS since their swab kits and stuff to sign up is free for us to use.
