The Presbyterian College Choir, directed by Dr. Porter Stokes, will be performing a patriotic concert on Friday, October 28, in Edmunds Hall at 7:30 PM.  The theme and music were selected with the intent of drawing a wide variety of audience members and uniting the college and community through a celebration of America. This includes musical settings of historical documents, references to battles, and of course, the honoring of members from all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. Stokes felt that many people today, especially students, do not have an apt appreciation or knowledge of the nation’s heritage, and decided that a patriotic concert was a great way to help amend this.

“The students are very enthusiastic about doing it and they see the value in it,” Stokes said, when asked how the choir members were responding to the new repertoire.

In addition to hosting this celebratory event, the Presbyterian College Choir is traveling to Vienna, Budapest, and Prague over spring break to obtain more exposure to different cultures and styles of music.

Tickets for this concert are priced at $10 and will contribute to funding the choir’s spring break trip.  They can be purchased in the offices of the Music Department. The PC Choir would greatly enjoy the presence of all as they commemorate America and the armed forces at their patriotic concert.

Dr. Stokes put it best: “It’s okay to be sentimental; it’s okay to be patriotic; it’s okay to love your country. Come with us and do just that.”
