On March 11th, the women’s basketball season came to an end after they suffered a heartbreaking loss against the defending Big South champs, Asheville. Losing for most of the game, the Blue Hose took the lead in the 4th quarter and gained the lead with 28 seconds to go. After a late foul call accompanied with a made basket, Asheville made the free throw, giving them a 1-point lead with 1.8 seconds to go. Unfortunately, the Blue Hose were unable to inbound the ball and time ran out, effectively ending a great season. However, even though this season is over, there is so much to be proud of and so much to look forward to in the coming season.

Junior Allie Wagner said, “This season was filled with many hard fought battles with many obstacles like injuries, limited numbers and a new staff, but we really improved over the course of the season and we really had a great shot at winning the tourney, but the cards just didn’t fall right.”

While the outcome wasn’t ideal, the future is very bright for the Blue Hose. With four seniors graduating in the spring, new recruits are coming to help propel the Blue Hose even further next season. Of course, for the seniors on the team, there isn’t a next year.

Senior Kaycie Reffner said, “It stinks that we didn’t make it as far as we wanted to, but we worked so hard, and it was a lot of fun going to battle with this group of girls.”

The future looks bright for these girls and it will be very exciting to watch. As always, go Blue Hose!
