Along with the new academic year comes a new Chaplaincy Intern, who happens to be Presbyterian College alum Martie Hiott. Hiott graduated from Presbyterian College with a degree in history in December of 2017.

As a student, Hiott worked with Religious Life and Service and co-lead Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Because of her leadership skills and her passion for serving, Hiott naturally took an interest in the Chaplaincy Internship after speaking with Reverend Rachel Parsons-Wells at the graduation ceremony in May.

“I really want to help students get excited and maintain their excitement for service”, Hiott said. Thus far, Hiott has had the opportunity to plan events as Co-Chair of the Religious Life Council. For example, she has played a major role in planning Campus Wide Worship and Ukirk, and she helped to organize the impactful Service Day that many students participated in during the Week of Welcome.

Currently, Hiott is very involved in the hurricane relief supply drive that PC has been coordinating to help victims of Hurricane Florence.

Through this internship, Hiott has learned the importance of collaboration and teamwork, and has realized that she likes the atmosphere of working in secondary education setting.

“Don’t be afraid to reach out for support because people are always here to help,” Hiott said. Hiott has enjoyed engaging with students from a variety of backgrounds and interests, and is really looking forward to working with more of the students on campus as she continues her internship.
