To tell you the truth, before I received an invitation from my sister, I’d never actually been to a state fair before. So to have the chance of not only going on a field trip with my sister and CIH but also to the renowned Columbia State Fair sounded like a dream come true. So I immediately said yes and ended up never regretting that decision.
The journey took a while, and we experienced some delays along the way, but it was worth it as we arrived with the carnival lights and setups dazzling us all. Afterwards, we all looked around and took a look at all the rides, food stands, and attractions that the fair has to offer. Just being in person was amazing enough, but the real fun began when we began trying out what they had to offer.
The food, of course, was a real standout, as they had so many foods, both sweet and savory, that could satisfy practically anyone. From funnel cakes and elephant ears to chili dogs and turkey legs to even some crazy options such as chicken fingers on a stick (delicious), poutine fries, and even a stand that would fry almost anything, from red velvet cake to Oreos to even butter!
The rides, of course, were also amazing, with many people looking around trying out the big ones like the roller coaster or the Ferris wheel. But for my money, I took the one ride that I felt would give me the greatest experience: the Sky Ride. It’s kind of like the ski lift you used to get on top of mountains, but for this one, I was able to hitch a ride in the air and have an entire view of the whole amusement park as I kept moving forward all the way through. It was the perfect choice for me to experience everything at. It was the greatest time for me, and I believed everyone else felt the same way.
After everything we also stopped to take a group photo (shown above) as we all capped off a successful night. This night reminded me of how, while college can be stressful and can overwhelm you, sometimes you need to take a step back and breathe a little more. It reminds you of just how important enjoying life could be, especially with friendly peers you get to know along the way.
