Looking for something fun to do because, like me, you can’t stand to be bored for more than a few hours? Look no further! The South, despite the many funny insults you can give it, has some things in store for the holiday season that are bound to fill your days with fun. Lights, ice skating, carriage rides, yummy treats, and even more and more lights!
If there’s a spot nearby that knows Christmas like you know the back of your hand, it’s Forest City, North Carolina. November 28th through January 1st, from 5pm to 11:30pm, this city does Christmas lights no other. Christmas lights shine bright all over this homey city as music plays from every corner. On the weekends, you can grab a cup of delicious hot chocolate and enjoy a carriage ride around town, or if you're more a walking-kind of person, make sure to visit the Pavillon on Park Square to see the biggest lit up Christmas ornament around! While you’re there, visit the local shops always selling the most beautiful homemade jewelry, or perhaps visit the diner that takes you right back to the 80s. The fun never stops in Forest City. Extra events for a small cost include ice skating, hay rides, and the most delicious holiday food.
If you’re looking for a more sophisticated Christmas display, look no further than the Biltmore Estate. Lots visit throughout the year to see the beautiful historic displays and breath-taking gardens, but over Christmas, they take it to another level. Past thousands of lights and dozens of trees, festive dining, wine tasting, shopping in the shimmering Antler Hill Village, and other holiday activities by candlelight are there for you to enjoy. When it’s all done, you can take a seat near the cozy fire. This is a wonderful holiday wonderland you’re bound to enjoy.
Everybody’s heard of Charleston, SC, and for good reason! Where else in SC is sunny year round? This beach city, despite being known for all things Summer, also has some great holiday events in store for you too. From December 1 to January 1, you can find ice skating right near the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina, and right after make your way to an old town trolley tour bus where you’ll be whisked away to James Island to visit the magical Charleston Christmas Holiday Festival of Lights. Everybody likes Charleston for a reason!
