This long-distance pilgrimage in the United States was organized by a group of 19 monks from the Vietnamese Theravada Buddhist tradition to promote awareness of peace, love, kindness, and compassion across America and the world. The walk started on October 26, 2025 in Fort Worth, Texas. Their route is planned to span approximately 2,300 miles (3,700 km) in 110 days, concluding in February 2026. The Buddhist monks have been documenting their journey on social media and are accompanied by a rescue dog named Aloka. Furthermore, they are following a route through the southeastern United States. Their walk passes through states including Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. They then proceed north through the Carolinas and Virginia before concluding in Washington, D.C.. The monks continue to practice a meditative walking pace and pause in several communities along the way to engage with local residents and share their message. Head monk Bhikkhu Pannakara, along with other two monks, have chosen to make the pilgrimage barefoot. They carried signs and interacted with the public through quiet presence and peaceful interactions. In addition to that, the monks have also been giving out bracelets to those they encounter. The bracelet is a Buddhist symbol of protection and blessings. Aloka the Peace Dog became a member of the walk after being rescued. He is often seen walking ahead of the group or resting alongside them and has managed to capture the public’s attention. Aloka then gained many followers on social media. According to the public, the walk has been positively received in various communities— with local news outlets and social media users highlighting the unique sight of the group traveling on foot in traditional Buddhist robes.
