Figs and Thistles Party Recap 2: Another Successful Event!!!
By: Mohammad Rasasi
This week on November 11th, I attended the Figs and Thistle Launch Party, celebrating both Figs and Thistles and the entire media outlet of Presbyterian College, be it video, radio, or the news. I attended both as a representative of Blue Stocking and to observe the new types of poems, short stories, and other materials they came up with. Catering was Chick Fil A nuggets, fruits, and desserts, but due to the unexpected number of guests, the food was devoured in no time.
After everyone got their share of the food, they first introduced the media outlets, as they made their own pitch from the editors of Bluestocking to even my sister, who talked about BlueTube and all the opportunities that they could apply to it. And to tell you the truth, besides Bluestockings, I can see myself having a future in any of these outlets, as they all seem fun and engaging and right up my alley. It’s worth looking into and might be really fun to do, so I’ll stay tuned for that.
Afterwards we got into the real main event, the presentations of some of the works written for this new edition. Two of them showcased their work out loud: “Ours poetica” by Valentine Ureta Whitetaker, which showcased a poem about a prompt given to her in class and metaphorically compared the confusion of blood and ink on a page in a thrilling and engaging way. It was fantastic, and so was the poem “Envy” by Auden Uhl-Banks, having a deep exploration of the concept in a meaningful and appealing way. Overall, a fantastic event and one I can’t wait to attend more of and write about in the future.
