On October 28, a representative from the University of South Carolina Rice School of Law visited Presbyterian College for an informative Admissions Q&A session held in Neville Hall.
This was a great opportunity for Presbyterian College students to become more familiar with the law school admissions process and discover what makes the University of South Carolina Rice School of Law’s program unique.
The University of South Carolina School of Law is one of the oldest law schools in the Southeast. The school is located in Columbia and offers its students direct access to the state courts and top law firms. The university focuses on experiential learning, public service, and professional development.
Rebecca Robison graciously gave us her time and expertise not only about the University of South Carolina Law’s programs, scholarships, and application process, but also questions regarding general admissions timing. She shared ways in which students can strengthen their applications, prepare for the LSAT, and explore different legal career options. Her presentation felt tailored to the Pre-Law Club group, especially with younger members present.
The visit was a part of the Pre-Law Club’s ongoing initiative to bring law school speakers onto campus. By hosting events like this, the Pre-Law Club aims to better connect Presbyterian College students with the resources necessary to attend law school. By connecting students with admissions experts, the Pre-Law Club aims to help students make informed decisions about their legal and graduate careers.
Many students who attended the Q&A said that they felt more informed and prepared to apply to law school. Others said the Q&A clarified their legal goals even if they are not directly through attending law school. I personally feel that the presentation calmed my nerves when it comes to applying for law school. As a current senior, I felt this event gave me a clear picture of what the admissions process looks like and how to follow up after applying.
Alexus Hashey, the Pre-Law Club Vice President and a senior at Presbyterian College, said she is “deeply appreciative of the connections and sense of community that USC offers. The admissions team- especially Melissa Graff- has been extremely supportive and welcoming.” She also believes that these events offer an “invaluable opportunity” for students to learn about and engage with the law community.
Events like this show Presbyterian College’s commitment to supporting students beyond their time on campus. Presbyterian College cares and has an interest in students pursuing graduate and professional education. Offices such as Career and Professional Development, the college continues to offer career fairs, graduate school application help, and brings speakers to campus to help students plan for the future.
The University of South Carolina School of Law visit inspired students around campus to pursue their dreams and to keep up the hard work on campus to prepare them for law school. The visit served as a reminder to be persistent and proactive when it comes to applying for law school or any graduate program. The legal path is possible to pursue for any student willing to put in the necessary work. Presbyterian College is grateful to the University of South Carolina School of Law for taking the time to visit the campus and speak with students.
