“It is midterm week again, and I am honestly exhausted from all of this work.”
As per usual, the library on a typical Friday appears to be as empty as a movie theater at midnight. I gravely need to finish my assignments, but I also need a break at the same time. It feels as if my current life circumstances are a maze with no exit due to the fact that my family is going through financial difficulties and my grandmother’s deteriorating health.
My friend approached me and asked, “Wanna go outside and walk around the campus?”
“Nah, it’s all good. I have to finish my assignments first, but I think I will head down to the library basement to find a quiet place to study.”
“Gotcha, I’ll see you later then!”
As I made my way to the basement, I ran into the campus electrician and accidentally knocked the tools he was carrying.
“I apologize!”
“It’s all good, kiddo. I just finished replacing the light bulbs down here, and they look good as new!” he announced. “Now, don’t stress yourself too much on those assignments. Go out there and absorb some sunshine like what I’m fixing to do.”
After picking up the tools and exchanging greetings with the campus electrician, I noticed that he forgot to change the ones near the hallway that goes to the media center. It was 4pm, and all of the IT staff that worked here in the basement had left. I believe that I was the only one here in the basement lobby. I did appreciate the silence until I heard a noise coming from the computer lab. Out of concern, I checked the computer lab room to see where the noise was coming from. The lights were turned off in the room, so I flipped the switch on to see. One of the computers is running and making the old t.v. static noise.
“That’s kind of creepy, man.”
After four seconds of a glitching screen and static noise from the computer, it started showing creepy random photos of the library. I recognized a few of the photos, like the study room, but the others appeared distorted. I pulled out my phone to take photos of the eerie images so I can show them to the librarians later. However, my camera started acting strange and kept shutting down for no reason.
“Let me get out of here before anything scary comes up, cause this is just weird…”
Suddenly, all the lights went off! I panicked and grabbed all of my belongings, but I couldn’t see anything! “Ay gago! Where are we?”
As I navigated my way in the dark, I felt a cold hand snatching my right leg.
“Excuse me!”
“I didn’t mean to wake you up, but we are closing in six minutes,” suggested the student library worker. Finally, after being trapped in limbo for 666 years… I’m out! Thanks to that student who blindly fell for my trap!
